"Little Girl Turned into a Frog"

"Little Girl Turned Into A Frog"
by Chantelle Auree-Petrone

Once I was small and a little child
Played outside when it was mild.
Even played outside in the sun shine
And I was happy most of the time

But when the sky turned grey and cloudy
I felt the urge and need to be rowdy
Had to stay inside my mom would say
For it’s really blustery outside today

The clouds would swell and fill with rain
And me staying inside seemed insane
Stuck my nose up to the window pane
Watched the frogs hopping on the lane

Then the thunder would boom
The lightning would zoom
The cloud faces would make a frown
The rain would come pouring down

As tears would flow from my eyes
I could hear mom’s breath of heavy sighs
Mom would say, well I suppose
Quick as a wink I ‘d grab my clothes

I would put on my coat and green booties
Shake off all those indoor cooties
Grab my favorite umbrella from the rack
Kiss my mother goodbye with a smack

Ran outside under the rainy shower
God had sent from his heavenly tower
Skipped and splashed in water puddles
Surrounded by lots of rainbow cuddles

I started out as a child in the fog
Magical rain turned me into a frog
From a child to a frog as the lightning flashed
Mom caught it on film just as I splashed

Now there is proof that it happened to me
The day I played in rain and you can see
Once I was a child now turned into a frog

  1. I still think is one of the best photos I have ever seen. The knocked knees just complete the frog leg "image".

  2. I agree! This is an excellent photo and it captures the essence of what children do and how we should always encourage all children and their creative imaginations.

  3. Can anyone reading this create graphic figures to go along with this poem. Like drawing a frog, rain, clouds with frowns, lightning, etc.?
