5. Mr. White works at the Levi Strauss factory. He packs boxes of jackets into larger cartons. Each carton is 6 feet x 4.8 feet x 3 feet. The boxes are 3 feet x 1.2 feet x 1 foot. How many boxes will fit in each carton?
6. Robert picked up all the pennies he saw on the ground on his way to school. At the end of 46 days he had picked up 133 pennies. What is the average number of pennies he picked up each day? Round off your answer to the nearest whole penny.
7. Kyle is painting a rectangular box in red, white, and blue to make a base for a President's Day display. The box is 4 ft x 3 ft x 2 ft. Each can of paint covers 15 ft2. He uses equal amounts of each color. How many cans of red paint will he need?
8. Joshua's mother works at an umbrella factory. She cuts out the circles of waterproof fabric that are made into umbrellas. Each piece of fabric must have a diameter of 22 inches. What is the distance around (circumference) each circle of fabric? (C = Pi x d)
9. Austin has 20 spacecraft models including his favorite, John Glenn's Mercury capsule. Each model is in a clear plastic box that measures 1.3 feet x 0.6 feet x 0.6 feet. He has to pack all his models in a carton to get ready for his family's move. What is the volume of the smallest carton he can use for all 20 models? Round your answer to the nearest whole number.
10. Sierra started working on a crazy quilt on Quiet Day. Each piece is a different shape. She even used a shape with 8 sides! The lengths of the sides are 1 inch, 3/4 inches, 1 1/4 inches, 1/4 inches, 1 1/2 inches, 1 1/2 inches, 1 1/2 inches, and 1 3/4 inches. What is the perimeter of the shape?

5. 24 boxes in each carton.
ReplyDeletegood job!
ReplyDelete6. 2.89, rounded to 3 pennies per day.
ReplyDeleteGood Aveage means divide and so you divided 133 divided by 46 days and came up with 2.89 pennies and so you rounded it off to the nearest whole penny and it is 3
ReplyDelete7. He will need 1 1/3 of red paint.
ReplyDeleteGood job This was a rather difficult problem because you had to figure out how many sq ft he needed to cover and that was 60 sq ft. Then you divided 15 sq ft for each can and came up with 4 cans; then you solved for 1/3 for the three colors of red, white,and blue. He would need 1 1/3 cans for each color
ReplyDelete8. 69.08 is the circumfrence.
ReplyDelete69.08 is the C in C= Pi(3.14) x 22
ReplyDeleteRemember that the radius is 1/2 of the diameter
so radius would be 11 and C= 2r x Pi would get you to the same answer. Know these formulas for solving for a circumference of a circle.

9. 9.360 cubic ft.
ReplyDeleteVolume=Length X Width X Height then times 20
ReplyDelete10. 9 1/2
ReplyDeleteGood! You first have to change all so they have the same denominator. You come up with 38/4 and of course that is 9 1/2 as the perimeter.
ReplyDeleteP=side added.
